SETH C. HARRY, A.I.A., CNU

Qualifications and Career Profile

Seth Harry is the Principal and founder of Seth Harry and Associates, Inc., Architects and Planners.  Mr. Harry is a licensed architect with over twenty years of in-depth experience in the design, master planning, and implementation of traditional neighborhood developments, large-scale mixed-use developments, urban entertainment projects, and waterfront destination shopping, dining, and entertainment complexes, both domestically and abroad.

Prior to founding Seth Harry and Associates, Inc., in 1992, Mr. Harry was Design Director for the late James Rouse’s Enterprise Development Company.  In that capacity, Mr. Harry’s responsibilities included project conceptualization, programming and feasibility analysis, and overall design and master planning, with ongoing design management and oversight.

Mr. Harry’s strategic role in the planning and design process contributed to many of Enterprise’s most successful projects, including Tempozan Specialty Marketplace in Osaka, Japan, Sky Garden Mixed-use Development and Urban Entertainment Complex in Sydney, Australia, and MillStream Factory Shops in Lancaster Pennsylvania.  Large-scale master planning includes a Master Plan and Development Strategy for a new urban center and residential community situated on a 675 acre landfill site near Osaka, Japan, and a new $500 million urban mixed-use district for Belfast, Northern Ireland, that is nearing completion.

Since 1992, as Principal of Seth Harry and Associates, Inc., Mr. Harry has focused his efforts on applying lessons learned from large-scale, mixed-use, commercial projects and retail centers to smaller, mixed-use “main street” communities, urban villages, and new suburban infill communities.  Recent projects include an 800 acre, four village project in Nashville, Tennessee, another 600 acre NU project in Nashville, two 400 acre projects, one in Southern New Jersey, the other in Northern California, several large new TNDs in Guatemala and El Salvador, a City center redevelopment strategy for Christchurch, New Zealand, and numerous new town centers throughout the country.

In addition to designing new traditional towns and main street commercial districts as principal of Seth Harry and Associates, Inc., Mr. Harry has provided retail consulting, planning, and design services for Duany Plater-Zyberk, Dover-Kohl, Leon Krier, The Prince’s Foundation, and other noted “New Urban” town planners, and organizations.  Other services/projects include transportation-oriented developments (TODs), Main Street and Downtown Redevelopment Strategies and Master Plans, Regional Transportation and Land Use Master Planning, and retail planning, design, and market consulting services for both new Traditional Developments and free-standing, Mixed-use Traditional Urban Developments, in a variety of regional and market contexts, round out the firm’s work.
